Description
Scaffold-free cardiac microtissues sit between a monolayer of cardiomyocytes and a mechanically anchored engineered heart tissue. They are the correct purchase when the endpoint is beat rate, calcium handling, viability or a structural or metabolic cardiotoxicity readout, and the wrong purchase when the endpoint is absolute contractile force, because a free-floating spheroid has no defined cross-section and no anchor to pull against. That distinction is why this offering sits under tissue models and the engineered heart tissue offering sits under contractile: they are not competing products, they answer different questions, and the vendor pages will not tell you which one you need. The supply position is asymmetric in an unhelpful way. InSphero runs the most transparent operation in ready-to-use microtissue generally, publishing live prices for its liver microtissue line, guaranteeing at least 95 percent of microtissues available on arrival confirmed by an optical scan of every plate at packing, and shipping on a published production schedule; its scaffold-free Akura plate formats and Gri3D hydrogel microcavity plates are the reference plasticware for the geometry. But the priced ready-to-use lines are liver, and the cardiac configuration is not sold at a published price. The result is a category where the plate is public-priced to the cent, the cells are public-priced, and the finished cardiac microtissue is not. Wetware World's role here is deciding the geometry question honestly before any money moves, then either brokering the finished tissue by quote or assembling the self-formed route from priced parts.
Why this is hard to buy today
A free-floating cardiac spheroid and an anchored engineered heart tissue are sold with almost identical marketing language, and only one of them can produce an absolute force number, because the other has no defined cross-section and nothing to pull against. Buyers routinely purchase the unanchored geometry for a contractility programme and discover the problem after the tissue arrives, at which point the supplier's production calendar, not the budget, decides how long the correction takes.
Price evidence
No supplier surveyed publishes a price for a finished ready-to-use human cardiac microtissue, so this item is quote only and unpriced. The verified adjacent figures below are for different products and must not be read as a price for cardiac microtissue. InSphero live Shopify products endpoint, observed 2026-09-01: 3D InSight Human Liver Microtissues, one Akura 96 plate of 96 microtissues plus 250 mL of medium, $4,280.00 in each of the TOX (CS-07-001-02), AF (CS-07-001A-02) and INF (CS-07-001B-02) configurations, which is $44.58 per microtissue with cells and medium included; Beagle Dog liver $9,140.00 and C57BL/6 Mouse liver $9,680.00, each two Akura 96 plates plus 250 mL of species-specific medium. These are supplier list prices we located and recorded, not a quotation from Wetware World. Your price depends on quantity, specification and freight, and is only binding once issued in writing.
What you must specify
A quote cannot be produced without these. Anything you leave open, a supplier will assume, usually expensively.
| # | Parameter |
|---|---|
| 01 | Endpoint class, which decides the geometry: unanchored microtissue for beat rate, calcium and viability, or an anchored construct for absolute force |
| 02 | Co-culture composition (cardiomyocytes alone versus with fibroblasts and endothelial cells) |
| 03 | Cell source and line, and whether an isogenic disease variant is required |
| 04 | Number of microtissues, plate format and replicate structure |
| 05 | Microtissue diameter and uniformity specification |
| 06 | Required functional lifetime in culture after arrival |
| 07 | Medium configuration and whether it is included |
| 08 | Whether the buyer wants finished tissue, a self-forming kit, or the study run as a service |
| 09 | Delivery date aligned to the supplier's production schedule |
