Sourcing methodology

How the survey was conducted, what each confidence label means, the limits of verification, and what happens when a supplier cannot deliver. Listing is not endorsement. No payment is taken for placement.

Inclusion gates

A supplier that fails a gate is excluded, or published with a lower confidence label and a note.

  1. 01

    Inclusion trigger

A supplier enters the survey because a buyer requirement pointed at them, or because a gap in the catalogue required filling. Directories are not scraped. A category with one credible supplier is published with one supplier.

  2. 02

    Primary-source capture

Capability is read from the supplier’s own material: product pages, technical specifications, storefront APIs, published validation papers. Aggregator listings and marketing summaries are recorded as such and are not treated as primary evidence. Every capture carries a date.

  3. 03

    Capability quoted from the supplier

Capability claims are quoted from the supplier’s own wording. Where a page could not be fetched, the entry records the failed fetch.

  4. 04

    Kit versus finished good

Every entry is classified as a kit or a finished good. Two muscle platforms in the survey sell the mould rather than the muscle; their entries state this.

  5. 05

    Price evidence, dated and attributed

A price is published only with its source and capture date. Where a supplier holds no public price, the entry reads “by quotation”. A non-public indicative figure is labelled as an indicative range.

  6. 06

    Confidence label assigned

Every entry carries one of three confidence labels, assigned against a written definition and shown on the entry. An entry cannot be published without one.

  7. 07

Provenance assigned from a closed vocabulary

Four labels cover the catalogue, each defined below and assigned from the supplier evidence on file.

  8. 08

    Contact route recorded and re-checked

Where a supplier has stopped responding, been acquired, or closed a business line, the entry is corrected. Two organisations in the survey are recorded as closed and receive no requests.

Confidence labels

Three values, shown on every catalogue entry and datasheet.

Confidence vocabulary · counts computed at build
Label as shown Entries Definition Buyer reading
Verified against a primary source 42 Key claims re-confirmed against a live vendor page, storefront API or vendor technical document on the build date. The supplier exists, sells this, and the figures came from their own current material.
Partially verified 22 Claims come from a dated vendor page capture and are consistent across sources, but at least one material element, price, lead time, or willingness to supply, was not re-confirmed live. The capability is evidenced. At least one commercial fact is a dated capture rather than a live read. The quoted figure may differ from the published one.
Not yet verified 2 No supplier advertises this as a purchasable offering. Constructed from adjacent evidenced capabilities. Must be validated by an actual RFQ before being sold. Assembled from the capabilities of named parties. No supplier has agreed to build it.

A confidence label describes the evidence held, not the supplier’s competence.

Provenance

Confidence records the evidence held. Provenance records who makes the item. They are separate fields.

Scope of a listing

Not an endorsement

Listing indicates capability, not recommendation

A supplier on an entry means credible evidence exists that they can do the work. It does not mean they have been bought from, that they have agreed to quote, or that they are the lowest price. Where Wetware World holds an opinion on supplier fit, it is given as an attributed opinion.

Not paid placement

No paid placement

No supplier pays to appear, to rank higher, to be described more favourably, or to be recommended. No referral fee is taken for placement and no commission is contingent on supplier selection. Income is the margin or brokerage fee on work ordered, disclosed on the quotation.

Not verified

  • Financial standing, solvency, or how long a supplier will remain in business.
  • Internal quality systems beyond what the supplier publishes or documents to us.
  • Regulatory or GMP status, which is the supplier’s to assert.
  • That a supplier will agree to quote your requirement. Only an RFQ establishes this.
  • Delivered batch quality on work not yet placed.
  • Content on pages that could not be fetched. Where an automated fetch was blocked, the entry records it and the confidence label is lowered.

When a supplier cannot deliver

Five failure modes and the handling of each.

Failure handling
FailureWhat we do
A missed acceptance criterionThe criterion, the measurement and the gap are restated in writing. The supplier is asked for a remedy and our assessment of that remedy is provided.
A missed dateThe revised date and the reason are passed on the day they are known. Structural causes such as a fixed weekly production cadence, a permit or a courier window are stated at quotation.
SilenceA supplier who stops answering during a live order is escalated once and then reported as non-responsive. Non-response on an RFQ is reported alongside the quotes.
A repeated failureTwo failures against the same criterion end further requests to that supplier. The reason is recorded against the catalogue entry.
A capability that does not existWhere an RFQ shows a supplier cannot perform the work their page describes, the catalogue entry is corrected and its confidence label is lowered.

Sources

Every catalogue entry carries the URLs the claims came from.

The evidence sits on the entries rather than in a private file. A datasheet in the catalogue prints its candidate suppliers with the basis for inclusion, the price evidence with its capture date, and a numbered source list linking out to the vendor pages, technical documents and papers the claims were read from.

Correction policy

  • A supplier who believes an entry misrepresents them can write to [email protected]. The entry is corrected against their own published material.
  • Corrections change the entry and its confidence label, and are recorded.
  • Every entry prints the date its data was current.
  • Where a fetch was blocked or a page could not be read, the entry records it.
