Keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts are the input to every reconstructed epidermis and full-thickness skin model, and they are also the cheapest and most price-transparent human primary cells on this catalogue. Age grade is a specification rather than a variant: fetal and neonatal fibroblasts proliferate faster, deposit matrix differently and senesce later than adult cells, and neonatal foreskin fibroblasts are the default in a large body of published work, which makes them the easiest cells to compare against the literature and the worst proxy for adult skin biology.
