Description
Primary human endothelial cells are the cheapest human primary cell in the catalogue market and the one where the published specification matters most, because donor-to-donor variation in tube formation and permeability is large enough to swallow an effect. Cell Applications lists HUVEC at $266.00 and a pre-screened HUVEC lot at $536.00, both captured live 2026-09-01. That 102 percent premium for pre-screening is the largest in their catalogue and is worth reading as a signal: a pre-screened endothelial lot has been functionally characterised against a specific assay before release, and for endothelial work that is worth substantially more than it is for myoblasts, where the same supplier's pre-screening premium is only about 15 percent. ScienCell lists HUVEC #8000 at $323.00, at passage one, with a guaranteed 15 population doublings under ScienCell's own conditions and a named pathogen panel. Lonza publishes no price but publishes the most useful specification in the category: pooled and single-donor HUVEC are separate SKUs, diabetic Type I and Type II variants exist, and the pre-expanded high-throughput HUVEC (00191027) is cryopreserved at passage 3 and 10 million cells per vial and is guaranteed for only 5 population doublings where all other Lonza HUVECs are guaranteed for 15. Lonza states plainly that it is not suggested to further expand, subculture or bank those cells after thawing. That single pair of SKUs is the clearest illustration in this market of what a cell price actually buys: twenty times the cells and a third of the remaining doublings, for two different experiments.
Why this is hard to buy today
Every population-doubling guarantee in this category is void outside the supplier's own media, so the guarantee is not portable and the media cost is part of the cell cost, and the one supplier that publishes the worked example of this (Lonza's 5-doubling high-throughput HUVEC) does so in a knowledge base article rather than on the product page.
Price evidence
Cell Applications HUVEC: $266.00; HUVEC pre-screened: $536.00 (live store API, 2026-09-01). ScienCell HUVEC #8000: $323.00, passage one, 15 guaranteed population doublings (live page fetch, 2026-09-01). Lonza HUVEC: no price published on the product page as at 2026-09-01; Lonza's knowledge base states the high-throughput HUVEC 00191027 is guaranteed for 5 population doublings against 15 for all other HUVECs.
These are supplier list prices we located and recorded, not a quotation from Wetware World. Your price depends on quantity, specification and freight, and is only binding once issued in writing.
What you must specify
A quote cannot be produced without these. Anything you leave open, a supplier will assume, usually expensively.
| # | Parameter |
|---|---|
| 01 | Vessel and donor origin (umbilical vein, dermal microvascular, brain microvascular) |
| 02 | Pooled versus single-donor lot |
| 03 | Passage number at ship and guaranteed remaining population doublings at that passage |
| 04 | Which medium and protocol the doubling guarantee is conditional on |
| 05 | Standard versus pre-screened lot, and the assay the lot was screened against |
| 06 | Disease-state donor requirement (Type I or Type II diabetic where offered) |
| 07 | Full pathogen panel by name rather than a 'virus tested' claim |
| 08 | Whether the cell count is at freeze or viable post-thaw |
Quality documentation
Typically available with this item. What actually ships is confirmed on the quotation, per supplier.
- Supplier certificate of analysis
- Post-thaw viability specification
- Published pathogen panel where the supplier itemises one
- Population doubling guarantee under the supplier's stated media and protocol

| Organisation | Basis for inclusion |
|---|---|
| Cell Applications Inc | Public WooCommerce Store API returns live USD list prices; queried 2026-09-01. Age grade (adult / neonatal / fetal) is selectable at order and pre-screened and disease-state lots are separate SKUs. |
| ScienCell Research Laboratories | Publishes passage at ship (passage one) and a guaranteed 15 population doublings on every primary product page, plus a named pathogen panel: negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast and fungi. Prices fetched live 2026-09-01. |
| Lonza | Publishes passage at ship (second passage cryopreserved, third proliferating) and per-product population doubling guarantees; its knowledge base states the pre-expanded high-throughput HUVEC (00191027) is guaranteed for 5 doublings where all other HUVECs are guaranteed for 15. No price on the product page, captured 2026-09-01. |
| PromoCell | Publishes passage after thawing (P2), a guaranteed >15 population doublings without antibiotics, and the broadest pathogen panel found: HIV-1/2, HBV, HCV, HTLV-1/2, fungi, bacteria, mycoplasma. HLA-typed donors offered as a named service. Price re-verified live 2026-09-01. |
