Human Hepatocytes (Primary, iPSC-Derived and Cell Line)
Hepatocytes as cells rather than as a finished model, across primary, iPSC-derived and immortalised routes.

Description
Hepatocytes bought as a vial, for buyers building their own liver model or feeding a perfused plate. The three routes are not substitutes and only one publishes a price. bit.bio's 2026 ioCells catalogue lists ioHepatocytes as a 3-vial pack, each vial more than 5 million viable cells, at 999, which works out to roughly 67 per million viable cells and makes them the cheapest hepatocyte here by a wide margin; the deterministic manufacturing removes the lot-to-lot variability of primary material, at the cost of a single genetic background and an expression profile that is not that of pooled primary hepatocytes. Primary human hepatocytes are quote-only at every supplier surveyed, and the quantities involved make that opacity expensive: CN Bio's PhysioMimix Liver-12 plate holds roughly 400,000 to 600,000 primary human hepatocytes per well across twelve wells, so a single plate consumes about 5 to 7 million primary hepatocytes as a separate, unpriced line item that appears nowhere in the plate quote. Any comparison of a perfused route against a ready-made spheroid route that omits that cell input is not a comparison. HepaRG from Biopredic is the third route, a terminally differentiated human hepatic cell line with a long publication record that makes method development, assay qualification and technician training affordable in a way primary hepatocytes never are; we could not retrieve a public price for it. BioIVT lists hepatocytes and S9 fractions alongside its tissue bank but blocked automated retrieval on 2026-09-01, so that row rests on published descriptions.
Why this is hard to buy today
Primary human hepatocytes carry no public price anywhere while a single perfused liver plate consumes 5 to 7 million of them, so the largest line item in a perfused liver programme is invisible until a buyer is already deep in two separate sales conversations.
Price evidence
bit.bio ioHepatocytes, 3-vial pack, each vial >5 x 10^6 viable cells: 999 per pack, approximately 67 per million viable cells (ioCells 2026 catalogue BB/IOCC/V8, recorded 2026-09-01; bit.bio publishes one figure valid as pounds, dollars or euros and we reproduce it unconverted). Primary human hepatocytes: no public price at any supplier surveyed on 2026-09-01. HepaRG (Biopredic): no price retrievable from the pages available on 2026-09-01.
These are supplier list prices we located and recorded, not a quotation from Wetware World. Your price depends on quantity, specification and freight, and is only binding once issued in writing.
What you must specify
A quote cannot be produced without these. Anything you leave open, a supplier will assume, usually expensively.
| # | Parameter |
|---|---|
| 01 | Route (primary, iPSC-derived, or immortalised HepaRG-class line) |
| 02 | Single-donor versus pooled-donor primary material, and the number of donors in the pool |
| 03 | Total viable cells required, worked against the plate or construct that will consume them |
| 04 | Plateable versus suspension-qualified primary lots |
| 05 | Metabolic specification required (CYP activity, albumin secretion) and how it is measured at release |
| 06 | Non-parenchymal companion cells required (Kupffer, stellate, endothelial) and their donor provenance |
| 07 | Species, where cross-species metabolism is the question |
| 08 | Licence terms if anything downstream will be sold rather than published |
Quality documentation
Typically available with this item. What actually ships is confirmed on the quotation, per supplier.
- Supplier certificate of analysis
- Post-thaw viability specification
- Functional marker specification per supplier datasheet
- Sterility and mycoplasma per supplier release testing

| Organisation | Basis for inclusion |
|---|---|
| bit.bio | ioCells 2026 catalogue (BB/IOCC/V8) publishes pack sizes and a single standard price per SKU valid as pounds, dollars or euros. Cell counts are stated as viable cells, which is a stronger claim than a count at freeze. Captured 2026-09-01. |
| Biopredic International (Wepredic) | Supplies the HepaRG differentiated human hepatic cell line and the HepaSH lines. No public price could be retrieved from the pages available on 2026-09-01. |
| Discovery Life Sciences | Large biospecimen inventory across tissue, blood and disease-state samples; custom prospective collection is their stated core model. Quote-driven. |
| Cell Applications Inc | Public WooCommerce Store API returns live USD list prices; queried 2026-09-01. Age grade (adult / neonatal / fetal) is selectable at order and pre-screened and disease-state lots are separate SKUs. |
