Description
Cryopreserved human microglia differentiated from iPSCs, bought as the immune compartment of a neural model rather than as a standalone culture. Two suppliers publish list prices and they price the category very differently. Axol lists axoCells human iPSC-derived microglia from an unaffected male donor, ax0664, at $1,043.00 for at least 1 million cells, live-verified 2026-09-01, with the matched media and supplement kit ax0660 at $515.00 standalone and the bundled cells-plus-media SKU ax0679 at $1,324.00. That bundle is one of the few places in this market where buying the kit is unambiguously cheaper than buying the parts, saving $234.00 against $1,558.00 bought separately. bit.bio's 2026 ioCells catalogue prices ioMicroglia at 999 for a 2-vial pack of more than 1.5 million viable cells each, roughly 333 per million, with the large pack io1029L/io1021L at 3,330 for two vials of more than 5 million viable cells each. That large pack works out to exactly the same 333 per million, so it buys convenience rather than a volume discount, which is the opposite of how pack pricing behaves at every other supplier in this category. Engineered backgrounds carry no premium at all at bit.bio: GFP reporter io1096S, CRISPRko-Ready io1094S, CRISPRa io1102S and CRISPRi-Ready io1103S all sit at the wild-type 999. Disease and knockout lines carry a flat 30 percent uplift regardless of gene: APOE 4/4, APOE 4/3, TREM2 R47H/R47H and TREM2 R47H/WT (io1032S, io1033S, io1035S, io1038S) and the GPNMB and P2RY12 knockouts (io6009S, io6012S, io6015S) are all 1,298. Microglial phenotype is medium-dependent to an unusual degree, so the matched medium is a specification rather than an accessory.
Why this is hard to buy today
Microglial phenotype shifts with the culture medium, so the datasheet marker data only holds in the medium the supplier used, and at Axol that medium is a $515.00 line item that is priced and shipped separately from the cells it validates.
Price evidence
Axol ax0664 axoCells iPSC-derived microglia (>=1 x 10^6, unaffected male donor): $1,043.00; ax0660 microglia media and supplement kit: $515.00; ax0679 cells plus media kit: $1,324.00 (live store API, 2026-09-01). bit.bio ioMicroglia io1029S / io1021S, 2 vials each >1.5 x 10^6 viable: 999 per pack (approximately 333 per million); large pack io1029L / io1021L, 2 vials each >5 x 10^6 viable: 3,330; APOE and TREM2 disease lines io1032S, io1033S, io1035S, io1038S and knockout lines io6009S, io6012S, io6015S: 1,298 each; GFP, CRISPRko-Ready, CRISPRa and CRISPRi-Ready lines io1096S, io1094S, io1102S, io1103S: 999 each, at the wild-type price (ioCells 2026 catalogue BB/IOCC/V8, recorded 2026-09-01; bit.bio publishes one figure valid as pounds, dollars or euros and we reproduce it unconverted). No supplier surveyed publishes a price for GMP-grade microglia.
These are supplier list prices we located and recorded, not a quotation from Wetware World. Your price depends on quantity, specification and freight, and is only binding once issued in writing.
What you must specify
A quote cannot be produced without these. Anything you leave open, a supplier will assume, usually expensively.
| # | Parameter |
|---|---|
| 01 | Genetic background (wild type, APOE or TREM2 variant, knockout, CRISPR-ready, GFP reporter) |
| 02 | Cell count required, and whether the supplier's count is total at freeze or viable post-thaw |
| 03 | Pack size, since two of the suppliers here sell multi-vial packs rather than single vials |
| 04 | Medium the supplier characterised the cells in, and whether their marker data holds in anything else |
| 05 | Co-culture ratio and companion neuron or astrocyte order |
| 06 | Currency the catalogue figure will be billed in, where one number covers three currencies |
| 07 | Licence terms if anything downstream will be sold rather than published |
Quality documentation
Typically available with this item. What actually ships is confirmed on the quotation, per supplier.
- Supplier certificate of analysis
- Post-thaw viability specification
- Microglial marker expression per supplier datasheet
- Genotype confirmation for disease and knockout lines per supplier documentation
